At Terres Rouges, art and history don't just decorate the walls: they give the place its soul. Khmer painted furniture, antique objects, touches of Indochinese Art Deco… the collection, assembled well before the lodge opened, was built over the course of the founders' travels and passions.
Married since 1997, Chenda and Pierre-Yves Clais are two sides of the same coin.
Pierre-Yves lives to the rhythm of his passions, driven by a thousand ideas, a thousand impulses, a thousand dreams of adventure.
Chenda, meanwhile, watches over the administration and balance of their shared creations with rigor and constancy.
From a Cambodian family in Phnom Penh, Chenda is the daughter of a doctor who disappeared under the Pol Pot regime.
Pierre-Yves, a former paratrooper involved in the United Nations mission, arrived in Cambodia driven by a deep desire for discovery and freedom.
In 1997, they married, then opened a unique hotel together: the former residence of the Governor of Ratanakiri, in Banlung, which has now become the Lodge des Terres Rouges.
Through his excursions with passing travelers, Pierre-Yves learned to know the forest intimately, its trails, and the twelve ethnic groups who live there. Gradually, he became much more than a guide: doctor, advisor, friend, confidant to certain villages.
Ratanakiri has thus become a deeply special region for the Clais couple, who maintain a rare, intimate and sincere relationship with this remote province of Cambodia.
Terres Rouges is the reflection of this story: a place born of love, of land, and of a shared passion.
